Nature on your doorstep involved three focused sessions for older people at Sudley House to explore and discover how the natural world plays a greater part in their lives than they might think. The sessions were part of the well-established ‘Meet me at the museum’ weekly programme, but were the first time that these sessions have looked at natural history and the natural world.

Using object handling, and multi-sensory and creative approaches, the sessions aimed to help people explore nature on their doorstep, encourage them to take notice, get active, and connect with the natural world. Sessions were themed around trees, seas and bees.

Situated in leafy parkland in the south of Liverpool, Sudley House provided the amenities for the project events, a natural environment that fits with the themes of bees and trees, and a local population that comprises 19% of people over 65.
